The economy today is completely different to what it was 10 years ago. No longer can you rely on your job for security or the government to support you in your retirement, you have to look to other avenues to figure out ways to earn income and many of these can be from home.
This is easier said than done of course. What is the first thing you do when you start thinking about what else is out there, what other opportunities might there be? That’s right, you jump on Google (Bing or Yahoo) and start searching. And this is what you’ll find… over 3.9 million results available, that’s over 100,000,000+ pages of results on earning income from home – how on earth are you going to know which one to choose, or where to even start and which one isn’t a scam?
It involves a lot of research, I can tell you! My fiancé and I have been looking for an opportunity to earn income from home for about 2 years. We have looked at online investment schemes, owning our own home-based business and multi-level marketing companies.
I personally have been involved in about 3 different multi-level marketing companies over the years, all of which promised the world but failed to deliver. And that wasn’t through any fault of my own! The problem with traditional MLM companies is that their system is no longer working for people. Those that got in about 10-20 years ago are the ones making the most money. It is very difficult to make money in a traditional MLM company if you are just starting out today, especially if you don’t have a lot of money. We are all smart and most of us have been exposed to one form of MLM or another – we can smell hype a mile away!
However, there is no denying that network marketing, the foundation of MLM, works. Think about it, think about how many jobs you have gotten through knowing someone, that’s a network. Think about the last restaurant you went to or the last movie you saw, did you recommend them to anyone or did someone recommend them to you? That’s network marketing right there!
The Problem with MLM Today
The problem with MLM today is that the traditional companies have not adapted to the way the world has changed. Has anyone heard of the internet in these companies?! Hello, eCommerce, social media (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn etc), blogs, etc, etc? I believe this is the fundamental problem with the traditional MLM companies out there. They have failed to move with the times. The other issue is the products they are selling.
No-one is saying that the products they provide are bad, because they are not, the products are amazing. The problem is, the majority of the time their products are more expensive than what you can access via your local supermarket, and in times of a down economy, who can justify spending $20 for a box of laundry detergent?! The products they sell are also not necessarily something that a person just can’t do without.
What’s the Alternative?
You need to be smart. Think about the types of products that people cannot live without, think consumable products. Research shows that Water, Coffee and Tea are the most consumed beverages in the world. Wouldn’t it make sense to be involved in a company that utilised one of these products, or a home-based business that utilised this type of product? Now lets think about it, water is freely available world-wide, so whilst there are obviously companies making money on bottled water, if you can get it for free, wouldn’t you? So that leaves coffee and tea. The latest figures show that even in a down economy, people still purchase their coffee and tea – people can’t LIVE without these two beverages! Light bulb! The map below shows coffee consumption world-wide… Australia is barely on the map, however there are 1.5 billion cups of coffee being drunken in Australia– what a great opportunity!
If you are really and truly at a place in your life where you need to do something different, then there is an opportunity for you. Maybe you’ve been made redundant (who hasn’t these days!), maybe you have a baby on the way, or you’ve got kids, an ill family member or you just want a better life for you and your loved ones. There is an opportunity out there, a club if you will, that is making amazing things happen to normal people like you and me, and all through a highly consumable product… Yep, you guessed it, coffee! There is tea and hot chocolate too, but the figures show that more people drink more coffee (aside from water) than any other beverage.
